On the 3rd of June 2013, Demeter International, Terre-de-Liens, Terre-en-Vue and Bioforum Vlaanderen conducted the conference “Land sharing models for sustainable agriculture – Proposals for land preservation, new land use and management practices”.
The event brought together approximately 70 professionals from EU Member States to exchange knowledge about the state of the art and discuss the future of sustainable agriculture, land access and appropriate land use.
The conference started with keynote speeches from Patrick Holden, Robert Levesque, Pablo Servigne and Titus Bahner. Participants then worked in four groups focusing on:
– Preserving farmland,
– Facilitating farm continuity and supporting future farmers,
– Managing land as commons, and
– Developing a policy environment promoting land access for local, peasant agriculture in Europe.
