The Land Bank of the Principality of Asturias comprises the land and real estate assets that are part of the Autonomous Region and are comprised of plots of agricultural land. Its aim is to promote modernisation, agricultural and social development and the rational, direct and personal farming of the land. The extent of all properties is approximately 1,180 ha. The Regional Land Bank Commission, for its part, is an autonomous organisation that is assigned to the Regional Ministry of the Rural Environment and Fisheries, created by Law 4/1989 on Agricultural Planning and Rural Development.

The bank makes a cession of different agrarian parcels to the peasants through public tender. Also it’s managed the agrarian properties of the beneficiaries of the anticipate retirements of the agrarian activities. From 1992 to nowadays the cession’s hectares loaned to other peasants were about 36.000. The land bank has opened a bourse of rustic loans. Other activities are to foster the exchange of farms in order to improve the management of other farms. Also the land bank has a convention with the central government of Spain to manage their agrarian properties in the Autonomous Community.
